Gideon and Nissa's travels had led them to a desert-swept plane. After being found by a band of natives, they are led to the ancient city of Amahaggah, watched over by a queen said to have ruled for over two thousand years...and who seems to recognise Gideon.

Oh, I know full well that haunt is never returning. But that's why we have custom card creation.

The Tormented Veteran is a fabulous card. I wish WotC had implemented that idea when they developed the mechanic.

I've done a couple things to help haunt along. First, I've stuck it only on creatures - not only for flavour reasons (although that is a big thing), but also to help consolidate how it works (one of haunt's big problems is that it works differently on creatures and spells). I'm also expanding it beyond "Do a thing when this ETBs and again when the haunted thing dies" to give it a wider design space. I've also slightly tweaked the rules - turning it into a "may" ability, so you're not forced to put good haunts on your opponent's creatures or bad ones on your own.

Rite 1 (Then you may exile this card etched on a creature. That creature gains "1, T, Sacrifice this creature: Cast a copy of the etched card without paying its man's cost.)

Master Ritualist 3BB
Creature - Human Cleric (U)
When Master Ritualist enters the battlefield, search your library for a card with with rite and reveal it. You may exile it etched on a creature you control. If you don't, put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.
2/3

Darkblood Summons 3BBB
Sorcery (R)
Put two 4/4 black Demon creature tokens with flying onto the battlefield.

How does Etch work if there are multiple cards Etched onto a single creature? Is it "1, T, Sac this: Cast a copy of this card without paying its mana cost" or "1 / 2BB, T, Sac this: Cast a copy of a card etched on this creature without paying its mana cost"?

Really cool mechanic though.

Hey, reasons to pick this back up.

The idea is that each etched card grants the creature an activated ability specific to that card. So if you etch Flourishing Ceremony and Darkblood Summons onto the same creature, you can cast Ceremony for 1 or Summonings for 2BB.

...the...fact that it's completely different? The only thing they have in common is that they let you cast spells more than once, and they're hardly the only mechanics to do that.
