Tl;dr

They are going to start charging common members 300 points per month. Automatically. Whether you want it or not.

Don't see how this will help them... at all

Not really, no. It died as soon as they swapped to the new site with all that entailed. I've still got like $40 of points stranded in that wasteland. :/

Here's the rundown. They made a fancy new site and added some new features. One of these features was the ability to offer more than market value for the cards you want. Also around this time, stores and big traders had caught onto the site as a way to turn high volumes of junk rares into staples. Combine these two, and now you have all these big fish offering significantly more for various staple cards than they're worth, and there are enough of them that they have pretty much every staple for every format covered. Which means that if you're a normal Joe who's not willing to micromanage your want list and compete with the big fish, no one will ever send you any card that's worth anything, because they can get more from someone else. If no one ever sends you anything, you have no reason to use the site. So like 95% of users abandoned the site because they couldn't get the cards they wanted anymore.

I've never used Puca. Can anyone explain the difference between that and MKM?

So wouldn't the solution be to revert back and make it so you could only offer market value?

No clue about MKM, but Puca basically set point value of cards = 1 point per penny of actual cost.

Then you find someone who wanted what you had, agree to send, their points are deducted when you send, they get card, you get those points.

@Epoa- you'd think... but no they ate actively shouting themselves in the foot

then the stores and big traders would complain, which are probably the source of memberships aka revenue

(also reverting back wouldn't necessarily bring people back)

the real issue is that due to the large quantity of points in the system and not enough ways to remove points from the system that the point itself is actually worth less than a penny, so there has to be an effective point sink in order for reverting back to actually work and maintain the point value which is what the virtual monthly fee would attempt to accomplish

the better solution is to not attempt to index a point at a penny and maintain a virtual exchange rate similar to other virtual currencies but it's probably too late for that to matter

... So it's MKM with monopoly money and (now) subscription fees? And in retrospect, I guess also being a seller's market rather than a buyer's?
That's really dumb.
